I made the most of a sunny afternoon and visited Donnington Castle just over a week ago. Just north of Newbury it has great views over the town.
The Castle was built in 1386 by Richard Adderbury the Elder, and after being used in the Civil War was demolished in 1646. Donnington Castle was placed to guard the major routes from London to the Westcountry and Oxford to Southampton. Today all is left are the remains of the four towered gatehouse and some earthworks.
You see these photos and more in the Berkshire Gallery on the main site.
